Welcome to Sac Valley Ranch!

We are located in the heart of the Ozarks in Southwest Missouri. We have 135 acres of valley land on the banks of the Big Sac (pronounced “Sock”) River. Thus the name, “Sac Valley Ranch”.

We first saw and fell in love with the Dexter breed during the 2003 October Farm Fest Festival in Springfield, MO. We purchased our first 2 cows in March of 2004 along with our first dun polled bull.

Our addiction grew and over the next few years we continued to purchase additional cows and heifers.  We still were not satisfied with just raising Dexter's and decided to give the show circle a try. We were hooked from our first show!  After we replaced our starter bull with McRed in 2007 we entered our first Dexter show.  We left that show with McRed winning Grand Champion Bull. We have since purchased our second herd bull, Tyrone who we think has the qualities to be an excellent show and herd bull.  We have since entered multiple shows and have left each one with a ribbon. These two bulls are throwing quality calves that will soon be entering the show ring in 2010.

Sac Valley Ranch breeds for quality animals of all three colors (red, dun and black). We breed for polled animals but do have horned (will be dehorned) animals born as well. We feel the disposition is equally if not more important than conformation and will put any animal in the freezer that does not meet our disposition requirements.

Please feel free to call or email us if you would like to visit the Ranch, we enjoy the company of our fellow Dexter enthusiasts

We have both polled and horned (dehorned) animals of all three colors. (black, red and dun)

A Little About Dexters

The Dexter breed originates from the Southwestern parts of Ireland. Due to the hardiness of this fascinating breed, they were perfect cattle for the scarce pasture and cold temperatures of the Irish Mountains.  The first record of the Dexter breed being imported into the States was between 1905 and 1915.

The Dexter Cow

The Dexter cow should stand between 36 and 42 inches at the shoulder and should not weigh more than 750lbs.

The Dexter Bull

The Dexter bull should stand between 38 and 44 inches at the shoulder and should not weigh more than 1,000lbs.
